I often speak to clients about this topic all the time. Mental beauty. SOCIAL MEDIA! How hard it is growing up as a women, going through puberty and life changes without social media. I went through high school with ONLY Facebook and I went through major body dysmorphia. I wish I can talk to my younger self sometimes. I feel for girls who have all the social media we do today. Facebook, Instagram, snap-chat, tiktok just to name a few. The filters they have to adjust your lips and nose and not to mention the Photoshop apps.
I have always been a beauty lover and followed my passion and opened 2 business's in my twenties. Natural Lash & Defined Beauty. My clients know how I feel about beauty. I always say I truly think everyone is beautiful in their own way. We are all unique and different in our own way and that is what makes us beautiful. Beauty is a radiance of spirit, having character, kindness to ourselves and to others, it's strength and self-confidence to know that with or without makeup the real beauty is you. Part of beauty also has to be about the things that make you feel beautiful! My passion in beauty lead me to open a salon because I love the feeling of making women feel more confident. The most rewarding part of my job is making people feel good, I love when a client looks in the mirror and is brought to tears because she didn’t know she could look so beautiful. My beauty salon is to help build your confidence and enhance your natural beauty. This is why I named my salon Defined Beauty. What defines your beauty? We are all beautiful in our own way!

How social media affects teens mental health and well being?
Social media and unrealistic beauty standards:
Social media can then hurt your body image by constantly exposing yourself to the "ideal body type", leading to constant comparison of yourself to unrealistic standards. Additionally, Photoshop and filters are readily available to users playing into the unrealistic body image.
There are multiple factors that affect the beauty standards in the world today.
The images on social media sites are idealized and unreal, due to digital alteration thereby setting high expectations from individuals in society. Imperfections are removed by airbrushing and using other digitized apps to whiten teeth, slim waists and reduce sizes in order to be accepted as beauty ideals. These techniques may further lead to negative consequences of increased body dissatisfaction, body modification and low self-esteem issues.
Being confident and optimistic is super important. Here are some tips to stay confident and optimistic. After all, happiest girls are the prettiest!
Changing your negative mindset will bring you much more happiness and positivity. The energy you put out into the world is the energy you receive.
Stop Comparing Yourself
The majority of humans can now access pictures, profiles, and the lives of other people that they had no clue even existed. Social media has made this possible and I challenge you to realize that social media is everyone’s ‘best life’. All individuals go through struggles every day. Don’t compare yourself to someone that looks happy on Instagram because in reality they probably aren’t.
Change Your Focus
If you continue to constantly look at the glass half empty and ponder about all the negative parts of your life you’re going to be extremely unhappy. If you change your mindset and begin to think of all the things you are grateful for you will see a sudden shift in your mindset and well-being.
Detach from Outcomes
When all expectations are set aside you are setting yourself up to be much happier. When you aren’t completely set on a scenario playing out a certain way you will appreciate the outcome much more. If an opportunity passes you will know a much better one is on its way. Life has a funny way of giving you what you need when you need it.
Focus on the Possibilities
It is absolutely not possible to lead a more fulfilled life if you’re always focused on the negatives and impossibilities. Instead shifting your thought process to thinking about all the great possibilities and exciting outcomes in your life will overall be a healthier and happier process. Rewiring the way you think will eventually bring you into an optimistic state.
